Indian state of Rajasthan announces 1 gigawatt solar power tender

July 26, 2020 by Saurabh

The western Indian state of Rajasthan continues to expand its solar power capacity and has issued a new tender with more than 1 gigawatt of capacity.

The Indian state of Rajasthan is configured to develop 1,070 megawatts of solar parks to increase their participation in renewables in the global energy mix. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has invited to submit bids for grid connected solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in the state.

Developers must submit a one-time offer for any capacity from a minimum of 10 megawatts to a maximum of 1,070 megawatts. The projects will be implemented on a build-operate-operate basis and can be configured anywhere in the state of Rajasthan.

The successful bidder will sign the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SECI for the 25-year period. The energy produced by the projects will be sold to Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited.

Rajasthan aims to obtain 21% of solar energy by 2023-24 as part of its Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO). The state’s current installed solar capacity is 5.2 gigawatts, and 20 gigawatts of projects are at different stages of development.

Recently Rajasthan became the first state in India to assign solar projects to farmers. Under the Center’s scheme, Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RREC) allocated 722 megawatt capacity plants to 623 farmers. Project developers, on behalf of the farmers, can install the solar plants on their arid or semi-arid lands, and the energy generated by the plants can be sold to the facility, allowing income generation for poor farmers.

Rajasthan is also home to the largest operating solar power park in India. In March of this year, with the start up From a 300 megawatt project, the Bhadla solar power park reached an operating capacity of 2,245 megawatts.
