Immigrants in Trump-Led Ceremony did not know they would appear at RNC

Sudha Narayanan and Neimat Awadelseid were looking forward to Tuesday – the day, after a year-long process, they would become American citizens. They only found out minutes before the ceremony that President Trump would attend the derby, and they did not know that it would be broadcast that night during the Republican convention.

Ms Narayanan and Ms Awadelseid said they did not mind appearing at the convention, and said in interviews on Wednesday that they were still celebrating their newly granted citizenship. But the video, in which the two women and three others were granted citizenship, has been blamed by Democrats and other critics of the administration who say Mr. during the second night of the GOP Convention.

Several critics said in interviews that it was inappropriate to not tell participants they would be part of a political event, noting that the Trump administration had sought to curb illegal and legal immigration.

The White House raised questions in connection with the ceremony following Mr. Trump, who declined to comment.

Some Republicans praised the ceremony as a positive view of America. “From the naturalization ceremony to hearing the story of the First Lady from coming to America, yesterday made it clear that the United States is still the land of opportunity and freedom!” twittered rep. Kevin Brady (R., Texas).
