Vinebego County, Illinois, State Attorney J. Henley identified the victims as Thomas Farseth, 65, Jerome Woodfork, 69, and Dennis Steinhof, Den Den. Three others, including two minors, were injured in Saturday’s shooting.
The gunman was identified as Duke Webb (as was), who has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. He was denied a bond on Monday.
Webb admitted to the shooting Saturday and took officers to firearm locations, which were used in the incident, Hanley said.
Police believe the shooting was a random attack, Rockford Police Chief Daniel O’Shea said.
The web in Arab will be evaluated for PTSD, according to her attorney, Elizabeth Bacon.
The victims were shot on the first and second floors
Rockford police received an active-shooter call at 6:55 p.m. Saturday, according to charging documents. The business includes a bowling alley on the first floor and a bar on the second floor, according to a news release from Henley’s office.
Upon arrival, officers learned that multiple people had been shot. A 16-year-old girl was shot in the shoulder while sitting at a table with three other teenagers. A 14-year-old boy was shot in the face and is currently in hospital in critical condition, court documents said.
Farseth was on the first floor when the shooting started, when he was shot in the torso and started running towards the stairs. He made it to the second floor before it broke. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
According to the release, Webb then went upstairs where there were 20 to 25 people at the bar. According to the release, he “fired several shots” at the bar’s patrons, including Steinhof and Woodfork.
Steinhoff was shot in the torso and his body was found on the balcony outside the bar.
Woodfolk’s body was found in the parking lot below the balcony. One witness told authorities they saw him fall from the balcony. Woodfork was dead when officers arrived, the release said.
There was also a 62-year-old man in the bar who was shot in the left thigh, back, neck and buttocks. He has not been identified and is alive, but in critical condition, the release said.
The shooting was caught on video surveillance. Webb directed the firearms he used, which were in the back of his bag, as instructed by his officers. Officers obtained a Glock.40 and a Glock.380-caliber.
Multiple .40-caliber and .380-caliber shell casing were found at the scene, the release said.
The Web Army had a green barrette
The U.S. Army confirmed that Webb is a first-class sergeant currently assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, as an auxiliary operations and intelligence sergeant. The unit is based at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
According to Arb, Webb joined the Army in 2008 and was on leave at the time of the shooting. Webb made four different trips to Afghanistan from 2009-22020, from January to July this year.
The Army said in a statement that it would continue to assist the Rockford Police Department in its investigation.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of this tragic event and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed and injured,” said Col. John W. Smith, commander of the 7th Special Forces Group.
Web’s commanding officer, Major General John W. Brennan also issued a statement.
“Sergeant. The alleged actions of the 1st Class Duke Webb are disgusting and he is not fully representative of the Special Forces Regiment. The vast majority of men and women live for their assignments and assume them every day,” Brennan said. “The actions described in the reports are shocking and do not fully deserve the web’s 12 years of honorable service. We have the full cooperation of the Rockford Police Department. Our deepest hearts and prayers are with the affected families.”
CNN’s Michael Kailaghan, Dave Alsup, Holly Silverman and Ella Essar contributed to the report.
