We will all rather be at sporting events this summer instead of living with the difficulties and worries of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But while we may not be there, catching what professional athletes on the court say has been a real treat. And no one has lived it longer than Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi.
Taurasi gets T’d up for comment to ref
Midway through the third quarter on Friday against the Minnesota Lynx, Taurasi was called up for a shooting foul after a steal at the top of the key by Lynx’s Napheesa Collier.
Taurasi – who said earlier this year that there are no big defenders, just “professional foulers” – argued with the ref, her hands up and everything as she walked back. And when the commentators went silent, it captured the perfect moment.

Seeing the refs at the pool drinking beer and listening to Earth, Wind, and Fire is when you see your teacher outside the classroom at the grocery store … it’s weird lol

That, yes, Taurasi will probably run into every ref in the lobby. Good luck, everyone.
Mercury on loss of three games
The Mercury (6-7), who were without center Brittney Griner for personal reasons, are on a three-game losing streak after losing 90-80.
Taurasi finished with 14 points in another rough exit from the floor. She shot 25 percent (3 of 12) overall and made just two of nine 3-point attempts. She made all six of her free throws and added two handballs and an assist. The league’s leading scorer missed three games last week due to lengthy issues.
Collier had another incredible night for the Lynx (9-3), scoring 20 points with nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.
The Mercury is currently sixth on the standings and at significant risk of falling out of a playoff spot with the Indiana Fever (5-7), Connecticut Sun (5-8) and Dallas Wings (5-8) staying close has the heel. There are only about 10 games left for each team.
