Ilkay Gundogan names the three areas in which Man City lost the Premier League title to Liverpool

Ilkay Gundogan warned Liverpool that Manchester City knows exactly where they need to improve to try to regain the Premier League title.

The Reds play their first game as freshly crowned champions on Thursday night as they head to the Etihad Stadium to face off against their closest rivals.

Pep Guardiola’s team is expected to give Liverpool an honor guard, as they gave up their two-year reign as champions after their 2-1 loss to Chelsea last Thursday.

Despite winning the title the past two seasons, City has been a long way from the Reds this time around, with Jurgen Klopp’s men holding a 23-point lead at the top of the table.

In fact, City have lost eight Premier League games this season, more than they lost in the previous two seasons combined, while Liverpool have lost just seven points from their 31 games so far.

But while Gundogan admits that the Reds deserve their first crown in 30 years, he has issued a warning to Klopp and his men for next season.

“We know where we can improve next season to compete again for the title,” Gundogan told Sky Sports.

“We won the title consecutively, which is always difficult, but the motivation for next season will be there to win it again.”

“We lost too many unnecessary points we didn’t have last season and we lost too many games at home compared to when we were unbeatable.”

“There were also some individual errors, so there is a lot of room for improvement and we will start next season from scratch again.”
