During a press conference Monday afternoon, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Robert Redfield, continued the topic of pleading with Americans to put on a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19 . He said that if everyone followed his plea, then “in the next six weeks we could drive [the virus] on the floor.”
The reward for such a proposal certainly seems tantalizing (and relatively easy) for the average citizen (even if it ultimately doesn’t work), though it’s likely to fall on millions of deaf ears, making that timeline an impossible dream to achieve. Maybe it’s better, you know, for your sanity, if you prepare for an indefinite confinement.
Unfortunately, you cannot choose when you live.
“If everyone could cover their faces for the next 6 weeks, we could take this (coronavirus) to the ground,” CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield told reporters.

Redfield made these comments during a media session in Mecklenberg County, North Carolina. That county has more than seven times the number of positive COVID-19 cases than any other county in the state, although the fact that the largest city in North Carolina (Charlotte) resides within its borders is an obvious factor.
As Mediaite noted, Redfield’s comments also came on the third consecutive day that the United States racked up more than 60,000 new positive cases.
This is good, but the time to do it was six weeks ago. We are in a very bad and deep hole that will take a long time to get out of it. https://t.co/KIwId2tJLf

At this time, the CDC recommends that “people wear cloth covers in public places and when they are around people who do not live in their homes, especially when other measures of social distancing are difficult to maintain.” But, as of now, there is no requirement.
