Every year, popular YouTuber Marcus Brownlee – better known as MKBHD – shares his own blind smartphone c camera mero test based on the likes of his followers on the web. MKBHD recently posted its 2020 blind camera test and surprisingly, the iPhone 12 lost to the OnePlus 8T in the first round of the Pro Max.
The test is not scientific and only involves revealing a photo that people believe is based on images without any other reference. Marx shared the photos on his social network a few days ago so that his followers could vote for the photos they chose.
Last year, the iPad 11 Pro was defeated in the first round by photos taken with the OnePlus 7T Pro. But if you thought the results would be different this year with the iPhone 12 Pro Max camera, well, you’re wrong.
The photos were taken with 16 different smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Pixel 5, Huawei Mate 40 and Apple’s iPhone SE and iPhone 12 Pro Max. To our surprise, both iPhones lost to my rivals in the blind test.
The iPhone SE camera was compared to the Moto Edge + camera, but MKBHD followers chose the Moto Edge + photo as the best. After that, the photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro Max were placed alongside the photos taken with the OnePlus 8T – which also won against the iPhone.
The two best photos based on people’s preferences were taken with the Zenfone 7 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi10 Ultra, and the winner was the Zenfone 7 Pro.
Marx explains that the photos were not edited or even adjusted before they were taken because the idea of the test is which phone can take the best photo using only automatic controls. While the photos taken with the iPhone SE and the Moto Edge + are very similar, the photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro Max camera were too light in the window, while the OnePlus 8TA worked better with its HDR.
He also mentioned that things like exposure, white balance and saturation usually determine how people view a photo and then choose which one they like best. Although the photos of both iPhones have gotten a lot of details, the color temperature became more blue due to the sky behind the window – which affected the whole photo.
