CeeLo Green apologized after appearing to criticize Cardi B and Megan The Stallion, saying there should be “a time and a place for adult content” in music videos.
In a recent interview, Green said that “today a lot of music is very pitiful and disappointing on a personal and moral level”, adding that he believes artists like Nicki Minaj are “desperate”.
Addressing Cardi and Megan specifically, he added: “Attention is also a drug and competition is round. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, they all make more or less similar cruel gestures to get into position.
‘I get it, the independent woman and having control, the divine femininity and sexual expression. I get it all, but it comes at what cost? ”
Green has now shared a new statement on Twitter, claiming that his offers were taken out of context. “There seems to be a misunderstanding with a quote taken from an interview I did a few days ago when I was promoting my new project,” he wrote today (August 12).

“First of all, I’m a fan of artistic freedom and expression, as well as a fan of Nicki, Cardi and Megan. [sic]. I know most of them personally and consider Cardi & Offset family.
‘Therefore, I would not respect them in any way. I recognize them all as powerful, beautiful and influential women… and professionals. I follow each of them wholeheartedly for the inconvenience they caused due to a piece of my interview that was used as a headline, and in turn create controversy and loosen up between me and these ladies and their fans. ”
He added: “Know that I support everyone who is part of our community and culture. Almost always and will always be! A lot of love for all the female artists who run the game and handle their business.”
Green’s comments came after Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B collaborated last week to release new single ‘WAP’.
Check out the song, NME wrote: ‘When you reach the height of Cardi B, new names like Megan Thee Stallion are often on their tail. But with the level of charity on ‘WAP’, a little time – and friendly competition – could have just revived them more. ‘
Cardi B recently discussed ‘cancel culture’, saying she feels like she “has a purpose on my back, but it’s not because of my music”.
