Hurricanes vs. Bruins playoff game shifted to Wednesday morning

The Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes will wait another day before starting their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series, as their game was driven to 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday, the NHL announced.

The two teams were scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday night in Toronto, one of the two hubs of the NHL.

But when the opening game in Toronto between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets went to a fifth overtime tie at 2-2, the Bruins and Hurricanes were sent back to their hotel rooms and told they could leave on Wednesday morning.

The Lightning and Blue Jackets started their game at 3.30pm ET at Scotiabank Arena. They remained tied 2-2 after four hours more than five hours later, when the NHL announced that they would no longer wait for Boston and Carolina “because of the length of the Lightning-Blue Jackets game.”

Tampa Bay won 3-2 when Brayden Point scored at 10:27 during the fifth overtime.
