Hurricane Delta is rapidly intensifying and in the next 24 hours it could reach 3 categories

“Hurricane fatigue experiences are common for many people during the busy season, but we all need to take this threat seriously,” Edwards said.

According to CNN meteorologist Pedram Javeri, the hurricane is expected to land near Cancun in Category 3 in the next 24 hours. But from there, it was the U.S. May turn to the Gulf Coast.

On its way, it is growing rapidly.

Intense intensity in tropical systems is defined as 35 miles or more of reinforcement in 24 hours, and more than 40 miles of reinforcement in the delta from Monday.

Delta strengthened the Category 1 hurricane Monday with a tropical storm and is rapidly strengthening about 165 miles southeast of the Grand Cayman with winds of 85 miles.

Louisiana’s State Emergency Operations Center has been active since March because of a coronavirus epidemic and is still working to recover from the hurricane Laura that struck the area last August. Edwards’ office fee said a media briefing for Hurricane Delta would begin Tuesday.

Uncertain route to US

The Delta is only preparing to become stronger as it approaches the Yucatan Channel between Mexico and Cuba.

Xavier said Cuba and eastern Yucatan, including the city of C thete d’Ivoire, are under hurricane alert.

The hurricane forecast from Mexico is expected to be in the western Gulf of Mexico by Wednesday to Thursday but is not likely to hit the U.S. coast until Friday.

Jaffrey said the Gulf could be favorable for Delta to maintain its impact, but the three-day forecast is still uncertain until it reaches the US, Xavier said. Current guidance suggests that Delta will make a landfill fall somewhere between early Friday morning and early Saturday afternoon somewhere between Class 2 in Louisiana, Alabama or the Florida Panhandle.

According to the National Hurricane Center, “there is still considerable uncertainty about the magnitude of the delta as it approaches the northern Gulf coast, however, increasing the likelihood that the system will pose a severe wind and storm risk for a portion of that area.”

But there is another variable that meteorologists are monitoring; Interaction with the gamma of the delta, which is still flowing as a post-tropical cyclone near the Yucatan Peninsula.

This makes the delta route a bit more difficult to predict, as interactions with gamma fossils result in a “sharp westward jog”, followed by a sharp turn to the northwest, the national hurricane said.

The 25th hurricane of the season

The magnitude of the delta turned it into the 25th hurricane of the Atlantic hurricane season. It includes 21 hurricanes in the standard list of names, along with four hurricanes now named in the Greek alphabet, Xavier said.

This is the second time the Greek letter Delta has been used for a storm of any name and it is the 25th Atlantic storm. The previous one was Delta on November 15, 2005.

With eight weeks left in the hurricane season, the number of named hurricanes is close to an all-time record in a 2005 season when 28 hurricanes were recorded.

CNN’s K. Jones, Judson Jones and Taylor W. Ward contributed to the report.
