Hundreds wait hours for COVID-19 tests at the Mexican Consulate

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – If the crowd at the Houston Mexican Consulate has any indication, the demand for COVID-19 tests is high.

This free trial is a partnership between the Consulate of Mexico and United Memorial Medical Center. It is the second time that free trials have been offered.

A man who stood in line said he spent five days in the hospital a month ago. Since he was discharged from the hospital, he said he has not experienced or believe he has symptoms, but he wanted to make sure he had the opportunity to be tested.

“It is difficult to say something because you know that the pandemic scares everyone,” said Raúl Navarro. “So if you have the opportunity to come, everyone goes anywhere, do it because it is very scary.”

The site is scheduled to be open until 4:30 pm on Sunday or until the tests run out.

The line that was formed to enter came from different directions. While some people lined up on foot, others stayed in their vehicles, causing a backup of the traffic on US-59.
