About 300 teens were exposed to the coronavirus during a recent “pong festival” in Texas, during which several of them were awaiting test results, and some of them have been found infected, according to reports.
High school students attended the party near Lakeway in Travis County on June 20, while some of them had not yet received their COVID-19 test results, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
Several later discovered they tested positive, according to the document.
Lakeway Mayor Sandy Cox predicted the massive gathering will lead to more cases in a state hit by record hospitalizations.
“Unfortunately, our number of cases is likely to increase, and it’s because there was a big party last Saturday,” Cox said in a Facebook video.
Everyone who attended the event received self-quarantine instructions for 14 days. Also, anyone who has come into contact with those who attended the party should isolate themselves for two weeks.
Cox told CNN it was not yet clear if the part led to a large number of cases in the area. The city has had 105 cases, 50 of which are currently active, he added.
Shelly Parks, a spokeswoman for Austin Homeland Security & Emergency Management, told CNN that officials learned of the exposure because health workers are “asking for participation in meetings to be mentioned for contact locating purposes when people submit to the test. “
