Human remains found in search of missing US soldier

A group of 30 volunteers discovered human remains and items they believe could be related to the missing US Army soldier Vanessa Guillén, near the site where the body of a man was found.

The discovery comes two months after the 20-year-old woman was last seen at Fort Hood Army Base in Kileen, Texas, on April 22.

Texas EquuSearch volunteer group has been participating in efforts to search for Guillén. He toured areas in Bell County on Saturday before wrapping up his search mission for the day in Coryell County.

According to KWTX, volunteers found the remains in an undisclosed area in Coryell County, not far from the site of the remains of the missing soldier Gregory Wedel-Morales on June 19. Disappeared in August 2019.

Tim Miller, the founder of Texas Equusearch, said: “We know it is a process of elimination, so we know where it is not and we are moving forward so that we can wait for the day when we can say we know where it is.”

The remains discovered by the volunteers have been secured by homicide investigators and transferred to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for analysis.

Some of the personal items that were located in a river, according to Miller, declined to reveal exactly what they found.

Natalie Khawan, a lawyer representing the family, told Univision News that they asked the military to check surveillance cameras at the base in the hope that there may be key information leading to Guillén’s whereabouts, but they were told there was no security cameras installed. in the place.

Khawan also said they appealed to authorities to secure cell phones that may have received messages from Guillén in the moments before his disappearance.

The lawyer said that a message sent from Guillén’s phone includes the serial number of a weapon.

Khawan found the content of the message to be highly suspicious, and suggested that perhaps someone else could have sent the text message using Guillén’s mobile device.

The serial number of a firearm was sent from Vanessa’s cell phone. This text message is very unusual for us because it is not something that is normally sent between soldiers at the base, “Khawan said.

“Therefore, we believe that there is a possibility that someone else has sent the message, but the military authorities do not want to tell us who received it.”

The Houston native, who is Latino, was last seen in the parking lot of her regiment engineer squad headquarters at Killeen Base.

Guillén’s car keys, barracks room key, ID card, and wallet were later found in the armory room where he worked earlier in the day.

She was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, light purple tights, and black sneakers from Nike.

She had accused an unidentified sergeant of sexually harassing her and said she felt insecure before she disappeared, her family says.
