Not so fast, Apple! You recently boasted about the success of Tom Hanks Greyhound it was for its Apple TV + streaming platform (without offering any specific numbers on what that means), but they’re not the only ones with a successful new movie, the popularity of which we have no choice but to trust, as no one involved will offer actual data to support their claims. As reported by IndieWireHulu says it’s new Groundhog day-style rom-com Palm springs has been seen more in its first three days than anything else in Hulu history, giving it (just like Greyhound) the most successful launch of the platform. It also apparently generated “the most amount of social interest for any original Hulu movie to date,” but that must be impossible to really quantify, so it doesn’t make sense.
But hey, if Hulu is happy with the release of Palm springsThat is what matters most. After all, the film has had some high expectations since it broke Sundance’s best-selling record in January. Hulu and Neon paid over $ 17.5 million for it (specifically 69 cents above $ 17.5 million), so they clearly expected it to find an audience, and assuming we can trust Hulu’s insistence that it’s very popular, that’s exactly what happened.
