- Huawei says that canceling its US license will not affect existing phones.
- The company has promised that it will continue to deliver Android updates to existing devices.
Huawei has not really taken action following the follow-up to its US license expiration in the long run. However, the company has it now respond to a Twitter user about the future of software updates for their existing phones with Google services.
Assuring a Huawei Nova 5T user, the company noted in its tweet that the latest development “has no impact” on its existing phones. The Chinese phone maker has also promised that it will continue to provide updates to existing devices.
However, it is unclear if existing Huawei phones with GMS will get updates for Google Play apps and services in the future. These are generally rolled out directly by Google and Huawei no longer has a license to conduct business with the company.
The OS and security updates that Huawei refers to in its tweet may be what it can get through the Android Open Source Project. The company definitely needs to provide more clarity about its plans. Meanwhile, Google remains silent on the matter.
