Huawei Mate X2 teaser hints on new folding screen design

Huawei has posted another teaser for its upcoming Mate X2 folding phone on Weibo, which is the strongest indication that it will move away from the original Mate X design. The first Mate X, which was announced in 2019 and refreshed in 2020, had a large screen that was folded in half so that the display remained on the outside of the device. The follow-up phone, however, looks like it will be folded in a different way than Samsung’s Galaxy Folds.

Referring to the new design for the Mate X2, the teaser image opens at the corner from the side of the phone, with a glow inside the hinge. The picture is also a reference to the timing of the event, which will take place on February 22 at 8PM China time (7 AM ET).

The announcement will take place next week with Mobile World Congress Shanghai, which has turned its summer slot into a big Barcelona event. Right now, the GSM Association plans to have a face-to-face meeting with MWC Barcelona from June 28, but those plans may change depending on the epidemic situation, and phone companies plan to launch new devices around February and March. As always
