Among the more fashionable tweaks to the iPhone UI with iOS 14 is a redesigned Clock app. While it’s fun to see the rotating dial replaced by a more efficient number pad, there are some confusing aspects to the new interface. Read together for how to use the new iPhone alerts in iOS 14 and where the Bedtime tab has been moved.
The Clock app on iPhone with iOS 14 is somehow simpler, but also a bit continuous in others. Below we’ll look at how you can best use the iPhone Alerts where the Bedtime tab now resides and more.
Note: iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 are available as free public beta or developer beta for iPhone and iPad. Read more here about how to install them.
How to use new iPhone alarms in iOS 14
- Open the Clock app
- Tap on the Tabs alarm at the bottom
- Tap on the orange “+” icon in the top right corner as hit Edit in the top left corner and tap on an existing one to change it
- Use the numeric keypad at the bottom of the screen to enter your full alarm time (do not tap on the small orange time near the top, if you do, just edit the hour)
- You can leave the 0 for hours between 1-9 (eg Type 730 instead of 0730)
- Do not forget check the AM / PM switch (light gray box indicates what has been selected)
- One way to report the interface is by using Siri to set your alarms
Here’s what the new UI looks like and works with some more details and tips:
After tapping to add a new alarm or edit an existing one, make sure you start with the keyboard on the screen number below.
Do not forget to check the AM / PM switch. Unfortunately, the default is what the current time is. So if you add or edit alarms at 12 PM or later, make sure you switch it to AM for morning alarms.
What happens when you tap the orange time
The new UI becomes confusing when you start by tapping the orange alarm time at the top of the edit / new alarm screen, because it just selects the hour to edit or just the minutes as shown below. This leads to a counterintuitive and clunky experience.
However, with the default displaying all the time in orange (displaying the current time), you can use the number button at the bottom of your screen to quickly enter the hours and minutes for your alarm. So make sure you go straight to the numbers below.
Where’s the Bedtime tab?
You’ve probably also noticed that the Bedtime tab that was once in the Clock app is gone. You will still see the sleep | Wake up that is planned in the Alarm tab of the Clock app, but you will find that what used to be the Bedtime settings were now live in the Health app.
