How to take screenshots on your iPhone

Screenshots are useful. You can use them to show your grandparents how to use a new app. You can use them to send a shot of that strange error message to your company’s IT department. You can use them to capture tweets, yours or someone else’s, before they disappear through the deletion black hole.

If you are using an iPhone, you will find that taking a screenshot is a very simple operation.

  • Press the side button and the button to increase the volume simultaneously. (Note: If you have an iPhone that has a Home button, you must press the side button and the Home button.)
  • You will get a thumbnail image of your screenshot in the lower left corner
  • Touch the image to enlarge it. The icons in the upper right corner allow you to delete or share it. There will also be editing tools below that will allow you to add highlights or check it. Click the plus sign in the lower right corner and you can add text, a signature, arrows, or various shapes.
  • When you’re done, tap “Done” in the upper left corner. You can save the image in Photos, Files or delete it.
