How to properly wear your mask to prevent coronavirus

We know that you should use some type of facial covering to prevent the spread of coronavirus. You just should. Don’t argue with me about this.

Even if you They are wearing a face mask, however, You could be making a mistake that will compromise the effectiveness of containing your germs and drops.

The most obvious mistake (which I can’t even believe we need to call) is leaving your nose exposed. The mask should cover your nose, mouth, and chin. If your nose sticks out, you ‘re exhaling drops around you. If you forget, use this very informative educational illustration as a reminder.

You may also be tempted to wear a mask with a elegant looking valve. The problem with these valves is that they filter the air you breathe in but no outside. Since the main point of the mask is to contain its own droplets when you exhale, the valve really doesn’t serve the purpose. Some valve masks have a switch to open or close the valve. If you do have one, keep it closed so your exhalations stay closer to you.

And then of course be sure to keep your mask on clean. Do not use if it is visibly dirty or wet. Clean it at least once a day.. Store it in a clean, zippered bag, not on a dirty surface.

But most importantly: Con your nose! Wear the mask and cover your nose and mouth. This has been my TED talk. Thanks for listening.
