Facebook’s iOS app is finally getting an official dark mode. Like the dark modes in other Facebook apps,Delivery courier, Instagram and WhatsApp: Turning on dark mode changes the default white and blue interface of the iOS app with a black and gray theme. And it looks great, and it should please those of you who have not yet given up on the problem social network.
Although Facebook has not formally announced the existence of dark mode, have confirmed The new dark mode is being implemented, so some of you may not know that you can access it right now. We show you how to activate the dark mode of Facebook on your iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Facebook app on an iOS device.
- Tap on the “Menu” tab in the bottom menu.
- Scroll down and tap “Privacy and configuration”.
- A shortcut button for Dark Mode will be here as long as you got it. Tap to activate the new theme.
If you still don’t see a Dark Mode option in the app, you are not alone. Facebook says “only a small percentage” of iOS users have the feature right now. It is unclear if the new dark mode setting is only being implemented on specific devices and iOS versions. We also don’t know if the settings are enabled on the server side or if you need to update the iOS app first.
I searched for the new theme on an iPhone 7 and iPad Pro (to see if Dark Mode is also on iPadOS). Neither of them had the option, and there were no pending updates to the app on either device. Newer devices may be more likely to get dark mode sooner, but it looks like this will be another slow Facebook implementation. I will love it.

Be sure to keep the Facebook app up to date and check the “Privacy and Security” shortcuts periodically; the Dark Mode lever will surely appear at some point.
