How it works, sea creatures and diving

When I told my daughter the first time that we were going to be able to swim in Animal Crossing: New HorizonsHe was excited that we could use that pool sitting in my game deck. Not! Such things are confusing to explain to young children, but we persist. Regardless, swimming has come to the game from a late-night update, which could tell us it’s the biggest game update since the game’s release. Let’s see how it works.

To swim, you will need a wetsuit. To get your first wetsuit, head over to Nook’s Cranny and look in the cabinet for tools, seeds, and more. You can buy one for 3,000 hoods, and if you don’t like it, you can get more through Nook Shopping and probably other sources. You’ll also get a snorkel in the mail, but that’s just for style.

After that, you’ll need to put on your wetsuit and head to the edges of your island. Press A to jump into the water, then press A to continue paddling. You are doing it! That’s the biggest part, and when it comes to vibrating, you’re already there.

However, the most important thing you can do in the water is to dive for sea creatures. You can tell them a bit by the little bubbles you can see coming here and there. When you see them, press and hold Y to dive underwater: the camera will change and you will see the shadow from which the bubbles come out. Head over to it and your character will be looking for something new, maybe a mussel, some seaweed, or a jellyfish. Unlike fish and insects, there is no real way to tell the difference between different items before you grab them.

You can donate those new creatures to Blathers and get them, which is the name of the game. That’s it: a little addition that makes the museum play again, and I always like it when the museum comes back into play. Also, if you get a scallop, a cold otter will pop up to give you a DIY recipe.
