‘How could they do this?

Taco Bell is sparking a wave of online controversy over a series of possible “ridiculous” menu changes.

The news, which sparked a frenzy in social media users, began when an informant posted on Reddit about a series of dishes expected to disappear in mid-August. The Reddit user, who is a verified employee at the fast food chain, shared that many beloved items were receiving the ax.

Among those cuts: all the potato items, the 7-layer burrito, the spicy toast, and the triple-layer nachos. Perhaps most notable is that quesarito, a fan favorite dish that is basically a quesadilla paired with a burrito, is also allegedly out of the question.

None of these changes has been officially confirmed by Taco Bell. However, the company told Insider in a statement that it is in the process of “evolving” its menu to “simplify operations.”

That information alone was enough to send Twitter users to despair, with many lamenting the quesarito and other elements in a series of now viral tweets.

“Taco Bell getting rid of potato grills with cheese is proof that 2020 is still getting worse,” wrote one user.

“TACO BELL I’M TELLING YOU! BETTER KEEP MY QUESERITE! Another wrote, labeling Taco Bell in his lawsuit.

Taco Bell fans were equally outraged at Reddit, with many calling the move “ridiculous” or “stupid.”

“How could they do this?” a user asked

Others argued that the changes were detrimental to vegetarians and those on gluten-free diets, as potato products are often replaced by chain-heavy meat and wheat options.

“As a vegetarian, the Bell was one of the only fast food places I could trust that it would have plenty of options available … If they are totally abandoning all the potato items, I have no reason to go,” wrote a Redditor.

“As a person who works at Taco Bell, I can say that this will basically cut our business in half. I almost want to find a new job because of how stupid these changes are. It is as if they are trying to lose customers, “added another.

If Taco Bell made the alleged cuts, it wouldn’t be the first fast food chain to do so.

IHOP drastically reduced its menu last month, citing the economic impact of the pandemic. Meanwhile, McDonald’s temporarily removed salads from its menu and stopped its breakfast service throughout the day.
