House Democrats head to DHS to attend House hearing

Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee presented Chad Wolf to testify about threats to the country, a request that Wolf was “very disappointed” with.

Chairman Benny Thompson introduced the subpoena in the presence of the Acting Homeland Security Secretary for a Sept. 17 hearing. The committee said Wolf change based on a commitment to be presented on September 8.

Wolf Says ‘Lone, Homegrown’ Terror Threat Is Top DHS Focus 19 Years After 9/11

“Nineteen years after the 9/11 attacks, we continue to face serious threats to our homeland. “From the coronavirus epidemic and the ongoing election interference to the rise of right-wing extremism, there are immediate threats that will draw our attention,” Thompson said in a statement. “Mr. Wolf’s refusal to testify – hence avoiding congressional oversight at this crucial time – is particularly troubling given the seriousness of the Department and the Nation.”

Late Friday night, Wolfe pushed back, saying he was “very disappointed” with the move.

He said they agreed to testify on two separate occasions in August about both global threats and civil unrest in Portland. But since then, President Trump has formally nominated him to take a job he now holds in an acting capacity.

“I’ve been appointed since then, and it’s a long-standing practice that when you go for a nomination, you don’t testify about anything else,” he told host Brett Byrne.

Schiff has filed a complaint against the new whistleblower alleging interference in the Russian election.

He said the DHSA had offered acting deputy secretary Ken Cusinelli to testify in his place, and that “I am happy to testify before the committee when my confirmation process has passed one way or another.”

“So, we’re getting very compromised in committee, and unfortunately, it’s got to this,” he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the intelligence committee, Adam Schiff, announced that the committee was looking into complaints from the DHS and intelligence reports about interference in the Russian election.

“We have received a whistleblower complaint alleging that DHS suppressed Intel reports about Russian election interference, altering Intel’s false claims, and making false statements to Congress.” “This threatens our national security.”

He added: “We will investigate.”

Wolfe called the complaint “completely false” and “a hoax.”

“We are very clear about Russia’s interference in our elections,” Wolf said in a special report. “We have released more than 27 different reports in the last 12 months. I believe there were only three in August. We gave more than 40 different briefings to members of Congress, about Russian interference in our elections. I talked about this in media exhibitions. I’ve talked about it in my testimony about Congress and I’ve talked about it this week in this state of my home security address. “
