The House’s Democrat-led Foreign Affairs Committee announced Friday that it will begin proceedings to detain Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The contempt resolution against Pompeo, the second secretary of state of President Donald Trump, is being drafted in response to the continued refusal to comply with the cabinet official ‘with a congressional government and’ his transparent political misuse of resources of ‘the department,’ the commission said.

President Eliot Engel, DN.Y., said in a release that Pompeo “has shown alarming contempt for the laws and regulations governing its own conduct and for the tools the constitution provides to curb government corruption. prevent. “

“He seems to think that the office he has, the department he runs, the staff he controls, and the taxpayer dollars that pay for everything are there for his personal and political benefit,” Engel said.

Engel cited Pompeo’s alleged refusal to fully cooperate with the investigation into Trump’s allegations, such as the top diplomat’s speech to the Republican National Convention this week, which was recorded in Jerusalem. That speech is being investigated by the State Department’s oversight panel, led by Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas.

The president also rejected Pompeo’s refusal to hand over documents to Democrats the State faction had already submitted to a Republican-led Senate committee investigating Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

“I do not want to be a part of it. I will not strengthen under any circumstances [Russia President Vladimir] Putin’s debunked conspiracy theories or give them credibility. And I will not stand by and see the Committee as the House treated with such contempt by everyone, “Engel said.

The State Department did not immediately respond to a request from CNBC for comment on the announcement.
