Hospitalizations on the Rise, as Orange County Reports 663 Other COVID-19 Cases – NBC Los Angeles


Orange County reported 663 recently confirmed cases of COVID-19 and three more deaths on Sunday, bringing the county’s total to 16,854 cases and 366 deaths.

The county’s cases included 1,218 skilled nursing facility residents, 406 inmates and 111 homeless people, according to the OC Health Care Agency.

Of the three deaths announced Sunday, one was a resident of a skilled nursing facility and two were residents who did not live in a care facility. The total number of deaths includes 191 skilled nursing facility residents and 14 nursing facility residents.

The number of patients hospitalized in Orange County increased from 594 on Saturday to 624, and the number of patients in intensive care increased from 193 to 197.

County officials reported that they had performed 266,502 COVID-19 tests, with 8,350 documented recoveries.

The new numbers came as most of the county’s beaches prepared to reopen on Monday after closing the weekend of July 4 to prevent further spread of the virus.
