Earlier this week, some rumors surfaced online that BMW may actually produce a wagon version of it for real this time around. the upcoming next-gen M3, something the M brand has never done before. Well, it now appears that this is certainly happening, as just minutes ago, the BMW M Instagram account posted a teaser image with a rear end of M3 Touring titled “Mic Drop.”
From the teaser, we can see a new rear bumper with an aggressive diffuser that includes four large exhaust tips, but not much else. It looks like the M3 Touring will get a wider body compared to the standard Touring of 3 series, something that has previously been banned for making a factory wagon M3. And yes, the Touring will probably have the same giant kidney grille as the M3 sedan and M4 coupe. Pardon me.
In terms of performance, expect the M3 Touring to match the specs of the sedan that BMW unveiled last month. The M3 will have a turbocharged-in-line six that produces 480 horsepower in ‘basic’ form and 510 horsepower in the competition race, the latter of which gets an optional all-wheel drive system. If I had to guess – and that’s literally my job – I would expect the M3 Touring to be AWD only, and it probably will not get the standard manual transmission that the base M3 sedan will have.
The M3 sedan and M4 coupe will make their debut next month, but we do not yet know when the Touring will be unveiled. It will likely follow the sedan for a few months, probably debuting at the same time as the M4 convertible. Now do not raise your hopes, Americans. We do not agree with the wagon version of the regular 3 Series in the US, so there is almost zero chance that the M3 Touring will come to our shores. Still, it’s good to dream, right? And we’ll be able to import one in 25 years, at least …
