High demand for walk-in vaccination at Cashman Center

First-dose appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine will not be available next week at the Southern Nevada Health District or its partner clinics, days after the 65- to 69-year-old age group became eligible for the serum.

Only a second dose will be given next week in the district due to delays in vaccine shipments due to paralyzed hurricanes in parts of the country.

First dose appointments will resume March 1 at the health district and partner clinics.

The demand for vaccinations among the 65-plus age group became clear at the Cashman Center on Friday, which announced on Thursday that it would make 500 first-dose vaccines of the COVID-19 vaccine available for walk-ins.

As soon as the risers were able to secure the shuffle, Cashman Center officials were there just before 8 a.m. officially to favor others.

“People were well in line here before 5am,” said a Federal Emergency Management Agency employee. “It will be like this tomorrow as well.”

Las Vegas clerk Dumont said he and wife Ann arrived in Cashman at 6:40 a.m., within half an hour, were given wristbands and told to return at 11:30 a.m. When they returned, they were 20 Were inside and out in minutes.

“Behind the mask, we saw many happy faces,” said Dumont, 65, who praised the site’s organization.

Friday at Desert Pines High School, 3800 E. About 300 doses were also offered for walk-ins at Harris St. Just after noon, the health district emailed a news release stating that there were no first doses left at the Desert Pines or ash mitigation site on Friday for those without appointments.

The Cashman Clinic will pass 500 more doses on Saturday for 500 c-ins.

Walk-ins for the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine are available on Saturdays at Cashman for those who want health district or community partnership clinics – Western High School, Cashman Center or Middle C Middle School – or events hosted by Tou Row University or Las Vegas, North Las. Those who received the first dose of Moderna vaccine and their appointment was rescheduled due to shipment delays will receive their second dose within the six-week period recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to the district.
