Lawrence, who is expected to be number one in the 2021 NFL Draft, should leave Clemson as soon as possible, joining two-time finalist and current Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson (third in 2015 polls, second in 2016), the only Clemson player. Named Finalist in 1982 after the Heisman Trust officially began recognizing the finalist. Clemson has never found a Heisman winner.
This is the first time Alabama has received multiple finalists and for the second year in a row multiple finalists have come from the same school; In 2019, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and Chase Young were finalists.
Former Alabama Award winners Mark Ingram (2009) and Derrick Henry (2015) are backing. Overall, Alabama has 10 Heisman finalists, eight of whom come under Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban.
Tresc is the fifth gator to be named a Heisman finalist, joined by Amit Smith (1988), Danny Wurfel (1995, 1996), Rex Grossman (2001) and Tim Tabo (2007, 2008, 2009). Florida has three winners of this award: Steve Spreer in 1966, Wurfel in 1996 and Tabo in 2007.
The top 10 finishers in the 2020 Heisman poll were announced on Thursday, with Alabama’s Nazi Harris in fifth place, Bris Hall in Iowa in sixth, Ohio State in seventh, Zach Wilson in BYU in eighth, Notre Dame in ninth and Kyle Pitts in Florida
The Hizman Trophy ballots received 927 voters: 56 live Hizman winners, an overall fan vote and 870 members of the media.
