As we mentioned in detail today, it is easy to download iPhone and iPad apps from the App Store from the App Store to run on the new M1 powered MBQ Air, Mini Mini Mini and MBKbook Pro. However, Apple Plus gives developers the ability to-put-out their app to be available on the phone and many people have taken that option.
A user on Reddit has now discovered that it is actually possible to install application files or .IPA files on your iPhone, M1 Mac.
To do this, you need to have a copy of the IPA file, and so on Edge Point out, it needs to be associated with your Apple Pal ID. This means you can only download IPA files from other sources, or share them with other users. So how can you extract an IPA file from your iPhone?
Using App Imaging, you can download IPA files of purchased apps directly on your iPhone. Details of the Reddit user “potential” process:
- Plug-in device on Mac with iMazing turned on
- Select “Apps” to plug the iPhone into your device
- Select “Manage Applications” in the tabs at the bottom
- Select “Library” in the Managed Applications screen
- Download the apps you want
- Right-click on the downloaded application in the list -> Export IP
Once you export the IPA, you just double-click on the file, then install it and move it to your app folder like a normal Mac app. You can open it with Finder, LaunchPad or add it directly to your MacOS dock for easy access.
This works for most iPhone and iPad apps, including notable holdouts like Netflix, Hulu, Dark Sky and Instagram. However, some applications, such as the Apps app and the Apple Plus Store app, have additional requirements that prevent them from opening properly on a Mac.
There are a few things to keep in mind with this strategy. First, these developers chose not to make their applications available on the Internet for any reason. In many cases, things are vague and not working properly. Netflix, for example, does not offer full-screen mode or the ability to resize windows.
Instagram works properly, though it’s too small. I was really most impressed with the Plex app, which runs without a hitch. Ticket ok also works very well. But again, remember that the developers have chosen to opt-out for a reason, so you shouldn’t take their complaints to them.
In the end, this is something that Apple may (and probably will) block in the future. It’s an unsupported method of installing iPhone and iPad apps on the Apple Plus Silicone Max, and we shouldn’t expect it to be around all the time. Think more as a temporary way to explore the possibilities of these apps on your Mac.
If you are interested in trying it out, you can download iMazing for free.
