Gûle star Heather Morris – who portrays Brittany S. Pierce, the love interest of Naya Rivera’s Santana Lopez character on the Fox comedy series – held back tears as she looked back on the couple’s relationship, a month after the tragic death of Rivera.
“I’ve been feeling very heavy lately,” Morris said in a video posted to Instagram on Sunday (August 9). “I felt this in my heart as I connected with my fans, to connect with anyone who is a little lost, a little confused at this time.”
“I do not need to explain what the importance of the relationship between Santana and Brittany was to all of you who watched, because most of you felt like your gateway into your current life. Most of you felt “as an inspiration to become your best self. I want you to know that this was never lost on me. It was never lost on Naya,” said the actress of her late friend and co-star, who died on the age 33 in a drowning on the Sea of Piru, California, but, where she was missing when she wrestled with her 4-year-old son.
From the “Brittana” storyline, Morris said, “We both knew how special that was. I think she knew a little more than I did.”
She went on to say, “I really felt it a lot later with all the posts and all the people reaching out to her, and I knew the writers knew that too. That’s what they write for the fans in principle.”
“I felt a very deep need to connect with all of you right now,” Morris said, watering her eyes, “because I know just how important our relationship was to you all. And I know many of you feel very lost. and very far away from what happened, maybe a little confusing. And that’s completely normal. But I felt like blaming it on you guys because I think the fans had such a big impact on our storyline, and I want to thank you all for being such advocates and so supportive of the relationship between Santana and Brittany, because without your boys it would never have existed. You helped create something for the writers. And for Naya and I, that made a influence that will last a lifetime and beyond. “
“That I want to thank everyone who looks here,” she said, “and I want to thank all the fans for your love and support. I want you to know that we are all here with you, that sadness looks different on everyone and I “I want you to be gentle and kind to yourself at this time. I think many of you may feel very far away. I hope this message can make you feel a little closer.”
Morris shared a method of coping that has been helpful to her in mourning.
“Something that has helped me is to write a letter, to talk to her,” she said of maintaining a connection with Rivera.
