Miami Heat No. 28, or Andre Iguodala, as most people know him, tweeted about the Washington Mystics and Connecticut Sun game Tuesday and praised Aerial Powers. She scored 27 career points with a 94-89 victory, including this stellar long-range three.
However, there was a problem with Iguodala’s cheers; She did not mention air powers by name.
Mystics number 23 is good!

Discovering the Powers name is not that difficult. Using the same phone he used to tweet, he could have spent an extra second on Google ‘Mystics Number 23 ”to discover that it’s Aerial Powers, who is part of the current WNBA Mystics champion. Powers found the tweet and replied. It doesn’t take a lot of effort, but that lack of effort is at the heart of this conversation between Powers and Number 28.
Instead of apologizing, the Heat’s 28th was duplicated with another tweet. He decided to focus on a woman’s “manners” rather than admit that he should have given her credit for her name, while still mentioning her by name.
The easiest answer would have been to admit flaws and mention Powers by name.
You may say this is just a disproportionate tweet, but proper recognition is important, especially to the WNBA and its players, who are often ignored by a large basketball audience. The NBA as a whole has been doing its part to highlight the league, most recently with the male stars in orange sweatshirts bearing the WNBA logo to celebrate the first day of the league season. And it’s a great start that Andre Iguodala appears to be watching the WNBA games, but now he just needs to learn their names.
