Health officials report second coronavirus death in Butte County


Butte County, California – Butte County Public Health reports second coronavirus death in county.

The person who died while hospitalized was over 80 years old and had underlying health problems, according to BCPH. Investigation of this person’s coronavirus disease case suggests that it was a community-acquired infection. No specific site or event was identified as the source of your infection.

Health officials said in a press release that they express their sincere condolences to the person’s family and friends.

Butte County has seen a significant increase in virus cases in the past week, consistent with reports from nearby counties. Health officials said that while they are still investigating the details of these new cases, many appear to be in close contact with a previously confirmed case and from small gatherings like barbecues and celebrations with friends and family.

Health officials are urging residents to take steps to curb the spread of the coronavirus by following state and local guidelines, including the use of a face covering when in public and common spaces.

“I am saddened to announce that we have lost another member of our community to this virus,” said Danette York, director of public health for Butte County. “We remind the community that meetings are not yet permitted by the governor and that we must be diligent in our fight against the coronavirus.”
