Health officials discuss discharge patients, mask mandate extension

JACKSON, Tenn. – There are now two more deaths in Madison County due to complications of COVID-19.

Hospital

An 80-year-old woman and 90-year-old woman now bring the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the province to 33.

But the hospital dismisses more positive patients than they allow.

“We discharged 14 COVID-positive patients yesterday. That’s great! Said Amy Garner, Chief Supervisor of West Tennessee Healthcare.

And now the hospital has started a new program for remote monitoring of patients.

This program allows physicians and nurses to follow up with delayed COVID patients until they are fully recovered.

“Some of these patients will receive a device that measures their oxygen supply and their heart rate. It’s about the size of a watch, ”Garner said.

The athletics of Jackson-Madison County Schools is moving to phase two, which means games can begin on September 4th.

“The athletes want to play and the main characters want to allow our students to have this opportunity,” said JMCSS Public Information Officer Greg Hammond.

The mask mandate is also set to expire next Saturday at 11:59 p.m.

Health officials and city leaders began discussions as the mandate is extended.

“No decision has been made. We’re heading out to the Governor’s Office. There needs to be some coordination with his executive duties and what we can and cannot do, ‘said director Kim Tedford, director of regional health for Jackson-Madison County.

And health officials keep reminding you to wash your hands, exercise social distance and wear a mask in public.
