‘He Dussed the Boys’: Andrew Peasley Burns Utah Crime

Logan – Andrew Pasley just wanted to land first. He ended up hitting a knockout.

Peasley pulled out of a crushed pocket and made it high-tailed toward the first-down marker. He left the hop on the right side of the line to get down the first line, and suddenly he was alone – dropping 62 yards into the final zone.

That fourth quarter saw Ahwah State win 41-27 against New Mexico at Maverick Stadium on Thursday night.

“How did we practice it this week – no, I’m just getting messy,” said interim coach Frank Mel. “That’s the beauty of having a dual-ripper quarterback. He always finds a way. He’s competitive. He got out of what should have been a sack, but he didn’t give up.”

And freshman linebacker Kina Mail, who got the infallible compensation for the punt blocked in touchdowns and wins, said: “He dusted that guy. He was crazy.”

Peasley said the play was supposed to be fast before, but things evolve quickly. He made a pump when the defensive line of New Mexico (0-5) turned around him and then turned to his left.

“I escaped from the pocket and I think it really is. It was open from there,” Paisley said.

It was the long-awaited first win of the season for Utah State (1-4) and the Aegis slipped away with some hope for the future. Game-cleaning, run from Piasley, was not the only play on Thursday. In fact, it looks like Jamsio has got his quarterback.

Sofmore Piasley of La Grande, Grand Reagan, began his first collegiate. And if Thursday’s performance is any indication, there will be plenty more to come.

Peasley was 21-of-21 for 239 yards and three touchdowns; He added a 118-yard rush and another score to the ground.

“Going into the game made me feel really confident. I felt like my teammates believed in me, and I just went out and performed,” said Piasley, who came out with the Covid-19 during the week of the game.

Piesley said that following some long drives that stopped in the first part, including the drive that had been pounding Paisley from the final zone, the offense came out “with some fire” and wanted to take a shot. That’s all they did.

If you were able to fight off the post-fist knaps between what seemed like endless first-half reviews, Paisley and the state of Utah awarded you their best performance of the year – by lots.

On the early possession of the state of Utah at half-time, Peasley found Justin McGriff in a tussle between two defenders for a 36-yard touchdown. On the front possession, Sofmore hit a seven-scare crossover, crossing the field for a quarterback 26-yard score. And the next day, Paisley threw it to Carson Terrell, who got a 35-yard touchdown catch.

Ag Giz came in on the Thanksgiving Night app on Thursday, scoring just 45 points all season, as they spread to a 0-4 record, and only 6 points at halftime. So to say that a sudden aggressive explosion would shock him.

“We took shots and they were successful,” Paisley said. “Feels good.”

The explosion in the third quarter was also helped by the defense. Kina Mail chuckled and returned it for a touchdown. Aggie scored 28 in the third quarter.

“It’s hard to win football games,” Coach Mel said. “But at any time you can do it in all three phases – as a team with offense, defense and special teams – it’s a great feeling.”

It’s the feeling that the Aggies are looking forward to all season. And one they are going to smell.

“Man, it’s a big burden on our shoulders – just to get there first and get us on the right track,” Kina Mel said. “We’re just itching to snatch that record from scratch and we finally got it. It looks awesome and I know we’ll be celebrating all week and for all Thanksgiving. I just love this feeling.”
