Hayley Williams released an acoustic cover of Radiohead’s Fake Plastic Trees’ on Instagram on Monday as part of her ‘self-serenade’ series of covers. (Previous releases have included Phoebe Bridgers ” Smoke Signals ” and ‘Unison’ by Björk.)
In the title of the cover, recorded as an iPhone voice memo, Williams declared that it would be “the last of the self-serenades for a while.”
“The most requested song in my short career in self-serenadism was an @radiohead song,” she wrote. ‘At first I looked sacred, until I realized that the band themselves had never once considered what they do as precious as never to toys. They are never seen after one version of their expression and public affections do not seem to sway them. So many times people thought they were at best just for them to flourish more beautifully into something unexpected and undeniably better. ‘
She continued: “For a while I thought about Radiohead (I know) but you will always find good things and welcome them back. That, in admiration of one of the best bands of all time – and in humility for everyone who did net ask for it – here is a self-serenade of ‘Fake Plastic Trees’. Enjoy it if you can. ”
Williams released her debut solo album, Flowers for Armor, in May.
