Toymaker Hasbro says it’s pulling a Trolls baby off store shelves after people complained that a button on the baby’s did not fit properly under his skirt. The decision comes after an online petition was made with urgent stores to remove the pop “Trolls World Tour Giggle and Sing Poppy”.
The petition has massaged nearly 300,000 signatures. “If you press this button on the doll’s private, you will yawn and giggle. This is not okay for a child’s toy! This toy should be removed from our stores,” reads the petition, which is addressed to Target, Walmart, Amazon, Dollar General and Family Dollar stores.
A video of a mother demonstrating the baby button, which activates the baby’s voice as an impression, has gone viral on various social media platforms.
In a statement to CBS News, Julie Duffy, former vice president of global communications at Hasbro, said: “This feature is designed to respond when the doll is sitting, but we recognize that the placement of the sensor can be considered as not suitable. “
“This was not intended and we are pleased to provide consumers with a replacement Poppy doll of similar value through our Consumer Care team. We are in the process of purchasing the item,” Duffy explained.
Trolls dolls were first created in 1959 and have seen many iterations and levels of fame over the years. They are extremely popular today.
Poppy, voiced by Anna Kendrick, is one of the main characters in the latest Trolls movie. “Trolls World Tour” premiered on-demand video streaming in April when most of the world was in quarantine, and Universal announced it had the biggest opening day and weekend for a digital title, according to Variety.
