Sacramento, California. (AP) – In the Biden White House, the first lady wants to study her job and the second gentleman plans to leave her law firm to support the vice president’s career.
When it comes to political marriages, we have reached a new moment.
Doug Amhoff, the 56-year-old husband of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, will leave his private law practice by the opening day to focus on his role at the White House, a spokesman said Tuesday. He has said little yet about how he will approach the role and is working with the transition team on what issues he will face.
“We’ve been waiting for this kind of gender switch for decades now,” said Kim Nalder, a professor of political science who focuses on women and gender at California State University-Sacramento. She added, “There is a lot of symbolism from the fact that the man is stepping back from his high-powered career to support his wife’s career.”
Even in Amhof’s decision to sever ties with the DLA Piper, the Biden administration gave a preliminary examination of how to avoid potential ethical issues. While Amhof is not a lobbyist, PayCom has a large presence in lobbying the federal government on behalf of consumers, including the Cast Maxt, the government of Raytheon and Puerto Rico. “I want more women in office fees, and I want more partners who have their partners, support them and provide opportunities and an environment for success,” Amhoff said in an October interview with digital site News News. He was not made available for interview with the Associated Press.
Cheston Batigig, husband of former presidential candidate Pete Batigig, said the two quickly became friends by changing stories about the people they met as political partners and their bizarre “water fish” experiences. Imof Cheston will admire Batigig on his occasional speeches and never approached him as a contestant.
“He was there for just the right reasons,” Cheston Batigig said. “It was because he loves his wife, and he thought he would make a great president.”
Buttigig, who would have broken down barriers even as the male president’s partner, said he remembers how many times he was asked what title he would use, a question that seemed futile. (Amhof has not officially chosen his title, but Byden has referred to him as “another gentleman.”

Harris tweeted a photo of himself on Monday and Amhof smiled as Biden was declared the winner of the election last night.

It was Amhof who filed a video of Harris calling Biden following the news of his victory, which he shared on social media.
Harris and Amhoff met in 2013 and married a year later. It was Harris’ first marriage and Amhof’s second; Her children are in their 20s and Harris is called “Momala”, there is a play to her name and a Jewish word for “little mother”.
The two were founded by a friend, and Harris was confronted in the 40’s as a single woman and his memoirs, “The Truth We Hold” were reluctant to reveal about his relationship to the investigation.
