Hands On: Fall Guys is a hit on PS4

The Comedic Chaos of Fall Guys is a perfect game for PS Plus Hands On 1

Fall Guys will be one of two PlayStation 4 titles available as part of the PS Plus line of August 2020, and couldn’t be better suited for the service. We’ve been putting this comical 60-player Battle Royale title to the test for the past few days through a closed beta, taking part in every possible event and seeking first place on more than a couple of occasions. And what we’ve found is the literal definition of a “just one more game” type of experience. Packed with fun and laughing out loud to be enjoyed alone or with friends, it really seems like the Rocket League has finally met its game.

But let’s go back for a second. Than it is Autumn boys? We bet that as soon as you hear the term for Battle Royale, think of Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone. Sure, the upcoming PS4 game from developer Mediatonic falls into the same category, but this is a completely different version of the concept. Think on the line Takeshi castle and Total annihilation to be exact. Five different rounds of mayhem are used to determine a winner, except that Fall Guys really is a case where participation counts the most.

That’s because, simply: it’s very, very fun. Each event leading up to the final showdown comes with its own unique twist on how to eliminate players. Things start relatively simple with a variety of obstacle courses that make you dodge anything from giant balls to flying fruit, but before long you’ll be competing in teams to navigate a huge soccer ball to a goal or make sure your team is on track. equipped with most tails when time is up. Each round is still relatively simple, but that’s what is so charming about it.

It’s fun to watch your friends fail even on the most basic tasks or watch them fall into ruin and get eliminated from the tournament. Then they will be able to see you as you get closer and closer to victory. Participate in a digital version of knock Knock of Takeshi castle. Match the platform you are standing on with the correct fruit displayed on the screen. Balance on rocker arms to make sure you don’t fall. Play a literal game of soccer with teammates. Fall Guys is infinitely entertaining.

Customization was pretty limited in the closed beta, but you’ll also be able to equip your own Fall Guy with multiple unlocked outfits just by playing the game. We were longing for a hot dog outfit during the pre-launch test, but we still had to dress up as chicken and change our skin color to make sure we really stood out on the game’s leaderboards. However, we will put on that hot dog outfit as soon as we get the full version in our hands, don’t worry about it.

However, not everything was perfect. A grip mechanic activated by holding R2 feels incredibly unreliable, especially when some team-based rounds rely on it. Movement feels especially complicated compared to the rest of the game and can make collecting eggs to score points for your team a bit tricky. Let’s hope this is an older version of the game or that the mechanics improve as we get closer to launch on August 4, 2020.

However, when all is said and done, it will be hard to find anything more fun than Fall Guys this year. And the best thing is that if you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you will not have to pay any extra money to start playing and having fun from the first day. This is truly the perfect title for service. With a guaranteed player base from the start and tons of comical events to look forward to, we can’t wait to start playing Fall Guys for real.
