Halsey he’s asking fans not to joke when it comes to mental health.
The singer of “Without Me” went to Twitter on Monday July 20 to apparently respond to Kanye WestRecent comments on social networks. “There are no jokes at the moment. I have dedicated my career to offering education and knowledge about bipolar disorder and I am very disturbed by what I am seeing,” Halsey wrote. “Putting personal opinions about someone aside, a manic episode is not a joke. If you can’t offer understanding or sympathy, offer your silence.”
“Many people you know probably have bipolar disorder and you don’t know it,” continued the 25-year-old star, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in her teens. “Taking advantage of this opportunity to make offensive comments and vilify [sic] people with mental illness really aren’t the way to go … this is exactly the triggering shit that keeps people quiet about it. “
Halsey went on to tell his followers, “You can hate someone’s actions or opinions without contributing to the stigma that hurts an entire community of sometimes vulnerable people, all for a few laughs.”
