Halo Infinite teases Master Chief’s return before July Xbox event

Ahead of next week’s Xbox Games Showcase presentation, which will focus on X Series titles, the company has released a new Halo Infinite teaser on its Twitter account. As if someone needed more reasons to be excited about the show, it looks like Halo Infinite’s appearance will be memorable.

The teaser sees a machine stamping the number “117” on the front of a green armor. The number is a reference to John-117 (better known as the Master Chief), the protagonist of most of the Halo franchise. Unfortunately, there is nothing else in the trailer other than that number “117”. We already knew that he would be the main focus of the game. In Halo 5: Guardians, the Master Chief was playable, but he was often in the background in front of newcomer Spartan Locke.

The upcoming Xbox Games event, which will take place on July 23 at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET, will feature a detailed look at Halo Infinite. The Halo Infinite reveal during the live stream will focus exclusively on the game’s campaign, developer 343 Industries clarified in a blog post. Unfortunately, Xbox isn’t talking about X Series hardware during the broadcast, though the next-gen console is still slated to arrive this holiday season despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with Halo Infinite as the launch title.

In other Halo Infinite news, a Mega Bloks set that apparently contained a spoiler for the next Halo entry has been debunked by 343 community director Brian Jarrard. According to Jarrard, any Halo Infinite product that comes out between now and when the game launches this holiday is simply “part of the roadmap.” Mega Bloks sets in the past have gotten creative with the license and are not always directly linked to an event in the game.
