Halo Infinite Developer Addresses Graphics Concerns and Discusses New Audio Feature


During the Xbox Series X event in July, 343 Industries first showed off the gameplay of Halo Infinite. However, while the actual gameplay element of the display impressed most people, the Halo Infinite graphics were criticized by many for appearing disappointing. In an interview with wccftech, 343 Industries Studio director Chris Lee addressed these criticisms. This is what he had to say:

I think for the graphics response, what I hope is that people have a chance to see our 4K streaming resources, I think that really allows our game to be displayed with full fidelity. We are definitely still in development, we have a bit of polishing and tuning that the team is working on to really bring the full potential of our experience to our fans later this year in Halo Infinite. We are definitely excited about the ambition of the title, of this open and expansive campaign and we will make sure it is polished and ready for when the fans get it in their hands during this vacation.

The gameplay demo is a great example of how we’re running on Xbox Series X, you’ll be able to run at 60 frames per second with up to 4K resolution. We are providing the most faithful experience we have ever created. We can do over 10 times the processing power per pixel that we were able to do in Halo 5, which simply allows us to create this experience that is unlike anything we’ve had in Halo before. In Halo Infinite, we’ve taken advantage of many advanced rendering techniques, but also the immense power of the Xbox X Series.

In addition to the graphics discussion, Lee also spoke about Halo Infinite’s music, as well as information about a new acoustic audio system. This system will dramatically improve the player’s audio experience compared to previous titles by making it more realistic and immersive.

Music is incredibly important to Halo and our fans as well, and I’m really excited that after Curtis Schweitzer, a songwriter we talked about last year at E3, we can announce our second songwriter joining Curtis, Gareth Coker. Both Gareth and Curtis have been doing amazing work and throughout today’s demo they have been able to experience some of the music that Gareth has worked on. We also updated our audio engine to create a new acoustic system and take advantage of a lot of extra processing power and transmit power with the Xbox Series X to really be able to envelop the player in a much more realistic audio experience.

Overall, it looks like Halo Infinite images will be in a much better state at launch. This is good news, as the quality of the graphics in the game show left a sour taste in the mouth of many fans. Ultimately, we just have to wait and see.
