Phil Spencer has talked about the decision to delay Halo Infinite and revealed that Xbox is considering splitting the game into parts and shipping it separately before the release finally shifts to 2021.
Spencer spoke yesterday about the delay during a guest appearance on screenwriter Gary Whitta’s Animal Talking show. As GameSpot reports, the head of Xbox stated that other plans were being considered when it came to considering the decision to delay Halo Infinite, including splitting it up and sending it in parts. You can watch a quick clip of the interview below.
Finally though, as Stevivor points out, Spencer explained that the decision to delay the game was finally made in the interest of the power of the Halo franchise and the health and ability of the team, and that it was split in parts ‘not’ makes us all feel like the Halo release we want. “
“We are disappointed,” Spencer added. “We know it was something that people picked out this year, but we’re also incredibly busy delivering a great game, and I think that’s the most important thing.”
News of the Halo Infinite delay came over earlier this week, with 343 companies posting a statement announcing that the release was postponed to 2021. Studio CEO Chris Lee wrote that it “decided to cancel our release” shifting is the result of several factors that have contributed to development challenges, including the ongoing COVID-related effects that are affecting us all this year. ”
Originally set to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X with a window of release date of holiday 2020, Lee stated that “it is not sustainable for the well-being of our team as the overall success of the game to ship this holiday. ”
