Group seeks to file class-lawsuits over flu shot mandate for children

A group called “Flu You Baker” is filing a class-lawsuit against this State requirement That all babies six months and older get flu shots this year.

The group is currently collecting signatures, According to NBC 10 Boston.

The state issued the flu vaccine order back to children on August 19. It seeks to protect child care centers, pre-schools, schools and colleges from flu outbreaks during coronavirus epidemics. Children need to be vaccinated before the end of the year; There is little medical and religious exemption.

“Every year, thousands of people of all ages are affected by influenza, leading to many hospitalizations and deaths,” said Dr. Krishna Kumar, medical director of the state’s Department of Infectious Diseases and Laboratory Sciences. To the Associated Press at the time of the announcement. “Getting the flu vaccine is even more important now because the symptoms of the flu are the same as COVID-19 and preventing the flu will save lives and save health care resources.”

But not all parents are happy with the idea of having their children vaccinated against the flu before.

“I don’t think the government will do anything medically to force my child to go to public school,” Sheila Tumi of Woburn, who has an 8-year-old daughter, told NBC 10 Boston, even though her daughter had previously received the flu vaccine.

Another member of the group said it was about the government’s reach.

“I believe it should be between the parents, their child and the doctor.” Vincent Delney told the news station.

There were protests in front of the State House on Sunday in protest of the move. Protesters marched with messages such as “Parents call shots,” “Uncle gets angry,” and “Stop vaccination experiment.”
