Grounded’s new update is out now, adding a bird and a new water insect

Grounded is still in Game Preview, and Obsidian has explained how it is committed to regular content updates based on player feedback. True to its word, and just in case you feel confident in the backyard, the August content update has arrived, added in The Bird.
We should have seen this coming: just this month, game director Adam Brennecke talked about how the team wanted to ensure that no base was inaccessible, and that even players who had built themselves up high would come under threat from some striker. At the time, Brennecke confirmed that bees, mosquitoes and other flying insects would be on their way to the game, but it seems that Obsidian also had something else up his sleeve.

According to the renewal notes, the renewal in the water flow adds like an environmental insect into the flooded biome. A much larger addition is The Bird, whose feathers can be used to make a bed and make the Marksman’s Cap.

The August update also includes a perimeter system with 13 benefits, which Communications Director Mikey Dowling says can allow “small mutations” to your character: you can mow grass faster, improve health, and more, with all three mutations equipped at the same time. There are also new acorn and branch fence buildings, new grass and clover tables, and two new types of BURG.L quests: Artificer, for making quests, and Chipsleuth quests, which take you around BURG. L-chips to be found.

“Thank you. You are the reason we have so much fun developing this game, and without you we would not be able to continue doing what we do,” Obsidian says. Upcoming updates will cover a lot, according to Brennecke, ranging from new environments, basic building options, and more systems. Content will also be based on player feedback, and may therefore include single – player story content, new bugs, and new features. In the meantime, players might want to keep an eye on that bird.
