Netflix’s “Queer Eye” is heading to Philadelphia for its fifth season, so it was only natural that the Fab Five would try to work their magic on one of the biggest stars in the city, one who prides himself on being rude.
In a mini episode released Tuesday, the Fab Five give Gritty a makeover. It’s just the latest pop culture crossover event for the Philadelphia Flyers’ bulging-eyed mascot, which debuted in 2018.
Gritty was nominated for the show by Phillie Phanatic “with brotherly love” because “being a pet is harder than most people think, and we all handle it differently.” Phillie wanted the Fab Five to convince Gritty that he didn’t need to eat a cheese steak at every meal.
In the introduction, Fab Five member Jonathan Van Ness lamented that Gritty wears the same outfit every day, but said the pet decided to go to the show because she needed “a little love.” Van Ness said the Fab Five’s goal was “to bring this fluffy, orange mess to the best day of the game.”
