The great Liverpool Graeme Souness issued a damning verdict on Manchester United’s transfer goal Jack Grealish.
United are interested in signing the Aston Villa captain this summer as they look to add a midfielder to the transfer window.
Grealish has further improved his game this season and played a key role for Villa in his return to the Premier League.
But Souness highlighted a statistic that says Grealish is the player with the most fouls in the league as a negative rather than a positive.
Some would say it shows how skillful he is at avoiding legally losing possession, but Souness is adamant, meaning the game’s creator doesn’t see the game fast enough.
In a somewhat strange speech, Souness told Sky Sports before Villa’s Liverpool game: “When I was playing, I didn’t want to be the player with the most fouls in the Premier League.
“That means I am holding onto the ball for a long time. It means I am not seeing the image early enough, taking an extra touch when I don’t need it. It means you are not seeing the image fast enough.
“There is no question about it. Yes, he has skill. He is silky in sight, but he has not convinced me yet. When I was being trained at our Liverpool club, they told me that I had made the decision of the strikers.” With the movement of my body, the way I get the ball off my feet, I am making them run even before I kick the ball.
“I think anyone who has faced so much and committed so many fouls is not seeing the picture fast enough. Would I have liked to play against him? I would have loved to play against him. Do physical exercise with him. He would not like to play against Paul Scholes, he’s too fast. Xavi, Iniesta, taking one or two touches. “
