About that “drive-in concert” in the Hamptons with the Chainsmokers that turned into a 2019-like show with hundreds of people by the well: Andrew Cuomo on Line 1.
The New York governor launched an investigation into Saturday’s EDM duo show, which was advertised as people-only in their cars and other “designated areas.” But social distancing did not rule the day, as evidenced by a video shared by a boy who was on stage with the group:
The crowd was estimated at 2,000 for the concert at Water Mill. Ticket packages ranged from $ 850 to a $ 25,000 super VIP option that accommodated RVs. All profits went to charity.
New York State is now investigating the concert and how and why it was allowed. The Empire State has banned gatherings of more than 50 people since it was the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak a few months ago.
The promoter, New York-based In the Know Experience, noted that concert goers checked the temperature upon entry, were offered hand sanitizer once parked, and had toilets that were sanitized every 10 minutes. He also told BuzzFeed that there were dividers separating the individual parts in the well area and that “the guests were also instructed that they would not be allowed to leave their designed places for any reason other than using the bathroom.”
Some fans who were there told the online outlet that they felt safe. “Everyone distanced themselves socially and was responsible,” said one. “We had an incredible time and look forward to seeing more events like this.”
