Gov. of Georgia. The camp rejected pressure from Trump to convene a special session to overturn the election results

Washington Washington – Republican leaders in Georgia on Sunday rejected a call to convene a special legislative session to overturn the results of President Trump’s presidential election in the state, as the president falsely claimed he had defeated President-elect Joe Biden.

In a joint statement, Governor Brian Kemp and Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan said bringing together a special session of the Georgia General Assembly is not allowed under state or federal law to elect a separate slate of presidential or elected voters.

“The judiciary is the only viable – and fast – option in the dispute over the results of the Nov. 3 election in Georgia,” both Republicans said.

Kemp and Dunk noted that under state law, the legislature could only change the method for selecting presidential voters if it was not able to hold elections on election day, as determined by federal law.

He said any attempt by the legislature to reverse the process for the November 3rd elections would be unconstitutional and would be ordered immediately by the courts, resulting in a long legal dispute and no short-term resolution.

Following the completion of the statewide vote count in the presidential election, Georgia last month certified its election results, formalizing Mr. Biden’s victory over Mr. Trump in the state. But the president has claimed that illegal votes were counted in Georgia, and Republican state election officials have also said that Mr. Biden has won the state for sure.

Mr. Trump’s G.O.P. The legal challenges posed by the Allies’ attempt to overturn Georgia’s election results have so far not been successful.

Mr. Trump has lashed out at Georgia’s leaders over the election and on Saturday Tweeted That camp should “immediately ask for a special session of the legislature.” The president also called the camp early Saturday along with the governor of Georgia Accept on Twitter That both spoke.

The Washington Post reports that during the call, the president forced Camp to persuade the Georgia legislature to reverse Mr. Biden’s victory.

Attempts to put pressure on Mr. Trump’s camp are advanced in his efforts to reverse his election losses. Last month, he called on Republican lawmakers from Michigan to meet with him at the White House. But after the meeting, legislators said they were not made aware of any information that could change the outcome of the election in Michigan, which Mr. Biden won.

The president-elect officially secured the Electoral Rule Code by a majority when he needed to win the presidency last week, while California certified its election results.
