GOP speakers denounce ‘chaos’, beating Democrats as anti-police

Several speakers in the fourth night of the Republican National Convention on Thursday denied violence in U.S. cities and attacked Democrats as anti-police.

Ann Dorn, the widow of a retired police captain in St. Louis. Louis, talked about her husband David’s police career and his friendship with a local man who eventually opened a pawn shop. She described the night earlier this year when David, in unrest following the death of George Floyd, was killed in response to looting in the store.

“They shot and killed Dave in cold blood and livestreamed the execution and his last moments on this earth,” she said. “Dave’s grandson watched the video in real time on Facebook, not realizing he saw his own grandfather die on the porch.”

At a time when police departments are short on resources and manpower, we need that help, ‘said Dorn.

President Pat Lynch of Police Benevolent Association (PBA) meanwhile said the “stakes have never been higher” for the presidential re-election. Lynch decided rates on urban crime and accused Democrats of “walking[ing] away from us ”by cutting police budgets.

“Democratic politicians have taken over our streets and institutions,” Lynch said. “The loudest voices have taken control, and our so-called ‘leaders’ are scrambling to get them in.”

The PBA signed the presidential candidate for re-election earlier this month, with Lynch attending an event at the president’s Bedminster, NJ, golf club.

“I can not remember when we ever ran for the presidency of the United States, until now. That’s how important this is,” Lynch said earlier this month.

Speakers’ remarks come amid social unrest in the U.S. fueled by the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man who was shot seven times in the back by police in Kenosha, Wis., While attempting his vehicle to enter. Blake is currently paralyzed from the waist down.

After the incident, protests broke out in the state, and some demonstrations led to violent clashes with law enforcement.

He echoed the message from Trump and his allies that Biden and Democrats would allow violence in American metropolitan areas, calling the current protests “progressive cities.”

Giuliani, who served as mayor of New York from 1994 to 2001, decided specifically on violence and looting in New York City, which accompanied peaceful protests against racial justice after the assassination of Floyd, an unarmed Black man who in May the Minneapolis police force died.

“It is clear that a vote for Biden and the Democrats runs the risk of bringing this lawlessness to your city, to your city, to your suburb. There is no question that this great task of restoring safety to our people cannot be done from your basement, Joe, ‘said Giuliani, taking a swipe at Biden.

Trump, he said, would “fight with all his might to preserve the US system of government and our way of life” if re-elected.

Biden issued a statement on Thursday on the unrest, saying “The violence we are witnessing is happening under Donald Trump. I am not. It is getting worse, and we know why.”

Giuliani and Lynch did not name Blake Thursday in their speeches, although Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben CarsonBenjamin (Ben) Solomon Carson Stacks and Packages Versus Suburbs: Let the Market Decide Trump Campaign Unveils Republican National Convention Speakers Need Suburbs: It’s Not ‘One Family or Nothing’ MORE mentioned the incident later.

Trump is ready to accept the GOP nomination on the south lawn of the White House later Thursday night.
