There have been a number of complaints about Google’s local search ranking algorithm that gives too much weight to the company name. But don’t be afraid, Google is working to address this according to Danny Sullivan, Google’s Public Search Link.
Joy Hawkins, a local SEO, was one of the complaints. She said, “The local search algorithm over-weighted business names. I actually tried these searches (Uxbridge, ON) when my stove broke and I ended up going to Facebook to find a company.”
Danny Sullivan responded by saying “I know the team is really working to better deal with this sort of thing. I also know that has been heard before. But I hope the improvements will be noticeable in the near future.”
Here are those tweets, with the screenshot Joy shared:
Thank you. I know the team is really working to better deal with these kinds of things. I also know that has been heard before. But I do hope that the improvements will be noticeable in the near future.
